Day 6, MPP

Day 6.  No one slept good last night. I ended up in bed with Jackson and Emmy in bed with Jordan. Jordan wasn’t sleeping well so he got out of bed super early to try to catch a milky way shot, but it ended up being cloudy. So, he waited around for sunrise and it was spectacular. Back at the room, Jackson woke up at 5:30 but did a great job staying quiet for an entire hour until Emmy woke up. It was just starting to get light outside and we could see that it was snowing! We went out and enjoyed playing in it for a bit until Jackson face planted and Emmy followed suit. They were done with the cold snow so I put them in the double stroller and walked a couple of buildings away to the food court for breakfast. It was in the 20s but it was so neat to see the large snowflakes floating down. After breakfast we got the monster trucks out and played with those in the snow. Jackson was still apprehensive, but they enjoyed it!

We are staying two nights in the same place, Maswik Lodge a the Grand Canyon South Rim, (woohoo!) so that meant we were able to come back to the room for good naps and we certainly did! It was much needed. We all ended up sleeping this afternoon and slept an hour later than we had intended. This meant we missed our chance for a hike before sunset, but it was evident that the rest was needed. While the snow has been super fun, one of the downsides to road tripping in the winter with toddlers is that the weather can really limit how often they are outside. I know some of you live in places that are crazy cold all the time so you probably think we are silly, but we just couldn’t get the babies out in 20 degree weather with windchills in the teens this evening for sunset shots! 🙂 So, I stayed in the car with the kids and tried to entertain. Initially when Jordan gets out of the car, they are both very offended that they are not getting out with him. So, we go through a period of crying for “Dada”, and “want me too, out!”, Tonight we had enough phone service for a little bit of FaceTime with grandparents so we did that for a few minutes. I also had been saving some fun things for a time such as this! So, we pulled out the play dough.

I found this activity mat on Amazon and it is amazing. It serves as a table for eating, coloring, car/truck driving, dry erase markers, a tablet holder (we haven’t tried this yet), and now, a play dough mat! Jackson was excited to get the play dough out. Though, I was quite certain we cleaned it all up when he was finished, about an hour later he said “Dada, AH!” and points in his mouth. We asked what? And he said “this. (pointing to mouth) Play dough” We asked where the play dough was. He said “Gone!”. So, I guess he ate some? If that’s the worst thing that happens on this trip, I think we’re doing alright!
